TED SUMMARY Jay Walker: The world’s English Mania

In this TED vidio, Jay Walker on Ted.com said that there are some manias in this world. First is Beatle mania which teenager is hysterical, dreaming, crying and pandemonium. After that, Sport mania which all for one idea and get the ball in the net. next, religius mania which has rapture, weeping and vison, mania can be good or can be deadly.
However, the world has new mania that is learning English. There are about 2 billion people in this world are trying to learn english. China is the most who learn it. Chinese student start to learning english in the third grade. Then China would become the largest english speaker. So why do they learn english?

They believe that by learning english they have the opportunity to get a better life, to get a job, and to be able to make a paper school. Chinese major student take a big test on 3 fulldays. Their future is determined by the score on this test. They have to study for 12 hours in 3 years to prepare. The way they learn about english is almost unimaginable. Walker said, English is the world's second language. Your native language is your life. But with English you can become part of a wider conversation, a global conversation about global problems, like climate change or poverty, or hunger or disease. And now English is becoming the language of problem-solving. Not because America is pushing it, but because the world is pulling it. So English mania is a turning point.
